Relaxation

Some restorative calm to ease body and mind

We haven't evolved to be constantly on the go.

Our physiology has the capability to deal with life's stressors but it evolved as a short-term reaction to get us out of immediate danger:

  • The stress response activates the release of adrenalin and cortisol, which energise and spur action.

Relaxation helps cortisol subside, switiching on the parasympathetic nervous system. This promotes a calming effect on body and mind.

If the mind and body don't relax and cortisol persists in the bloodstream, it causes the sympathetic nervous system to stay active (mind and body revved up and on alert). This isn't healthy.

Modern life can present a lot of stressors meaning it can be all too easy to get into the habit of always doing, overthinking or worrying, and overlook the importance of having downtime.

  • Once the difficulty has been dealt with the body then needs to relax and recover.

There are lots of ways you can promote relaxation including:

  • Spending time outdoors in 'green' and 'blue' spaces

  • Having a bath

  • Doing a gentle hobby such as drawing, reading, craftwork

  • Watching a comedy

  • Breathing exercises

  • Meditation

The restorative effect of relaxing better equips you do deal with the next difficulty or challenge when it crops up.

If you're having difficulty switching off then you might also find hypnosis beneficial.

Each relaxation session is exactly that - a chunk of time devoted to letting go of concerns and giving your mind and body the opportunity to relax. Many people find hypnosis / visualisation helps them to switch off and enter a calming state.

These sessions don't include any change-work. It's not an interactive process as it is with Cognitive Hypnotherapy sessions, aside from my asking you some questions at the start of the session to better understand you, so I can tailor my suggestions. Once that's done, you can get comfy and close your eyes.

Each session is 50 minutes and costs £60

If you would like to book a relaxation session, please send me a message via the contact form on the homepage.
